Where's the love (aka day four)

Well, the tile being installed made it impossible to push the fridge into its hole. Ugh!!! I have been working on getting the hole expanded. Aka chiseling at the wood like a fool and I'll be sanding like one tomorrow. Today I noted we failed to put the blasted sanding pads into the car. Sigh. The good news to this is I had to go to Home Depot for another gallon of wall paint. Five gallons apparently doesn't cover a whole house even with coats of Kilz under it. Sigh. More paint purchased.

Along with that purchase a short girls fence fix as I had to go let her in (or out to grandmas) because she can't reach over the fence to unlatch the gate. The good news is now this is fixed ;) one loop and an eye hook and all is well.

Oh and replacement sanding pads. Hey we can fix this stupidity thing - sometimes.

Remember the statement yesterday about the electrical? Yeah, that would be us not reading the contract fully. Whoops. We are up to code, just not where Butch wanted to me. Another sigh. This too can be fixed.

So. We had the gas line extended today for cabinet prep. Yes, it paid to have me here to ensure the cut off was in the right pace for cabinet placement. All is well and the extension is in place and ready to go.

They were late of course, but it's done. Next up shopping.

Ok I LOVE to shop for bargains, but REAL shopping? Freaks me out! So. We went to Home Goods, Marshalls, Walmart - hey, some things are just grand at Walmart - like plungers! Then Ross and Tuesday Morning, then a furniture store followed closely by the Sleep center (bunk bed hunt!) then to TJ Maxx and Books-a-million (gotta keep the kid happy!!)

What did we find?





Home goods was the biggest find with pillows, art (too cute coral beach sign), lamp shades. Thinking the lamp shades are going back and some new lamps are in order for the master bedroom. Something with blue glass and twine!


TJ Maxx was the last good find with pictures. This is going in the kitchen actually. But for now we'll leave it here for safe keeping.

Oh and these floors. Shoot me now end stands are wobbling too and fro in the master. Frustrating for sure!!

The other things purchased where hooks for the bathroom. Hooks for the bedrooms for clothing and wet towels. Dust ruffles and as I said earlier, plungers. Ha! You thought I was kidding didn't you?

So for a 1/2 day of shopping, not nearly enough was found, but this too shall pass.

Oh we did find the perfect TV cabinet at one store however when I asked if they had another they said no and when I asked about the price with the dings and a crack the manager asked for a price then walked away to take care of someone else and we discovered the crack was a break in the load bearing board so we left. It wasn't meant to be.

Day three (or is this two?)

I really wish I could go quicker on stuff. It's hard to heard cats. The kids don't want to work, don't come prepped to WORK and are generally lazy and want to sleep all day. And I stand in the middle wondering what is going to get done. BUT amidst much crying and gnashing of teeth the bathroom fan is IN!! I'm thrilled. It's a super quite one as its on any time the light is in.


And just to show you a few more lovely accomplishments Don (Butchs brother) was sweet enough to put in all of the A/C diffusers. You probably won't know this but that is also a NEW light fixture for the bath as well. Always a bonus.

I have issues with the floors being constantly dirty and there is stuff EVERYWHERE still. No order. BUT. I have to remind myself if JUST Monday.


OH and during the rewire of the fab it was discovered the outlets in the house are NOT grounded. And it's paid for. UGH. Really!?? I'm NOT happy and not sure what they did first he two thousand!! I sent him an email and will be calling him today.


How the girlies have been since getting together this weekend. So nice to see them huddled together catching up ;)


My haven in the storm that is construction ;)


The ONE wall that is wall color. I ran out of wall paint. Apparently 5 gallons only covers majority of the house. I ended up with ONE pan of paint in the end. Sigh.


Love the morning sun in here and can't wait to see it CLEAN and with morning sun :)


Another accomplish or two. New toilet roll holder. Swing arm one. How cool is that? Lol I need to get out more since that excited me. And two new towel hooks.


Oops make that TREE hooks up. And a new hand towel I got at Ollies in Macon.


And where I'm writing this from as I need to update my list and its 6:30 so I have a bit of a wait until the gas folks get here this morning.

Hopefully the electrician will come this morning too.

While waiting, we repaint baseboards.

Then it's off to places unknown to get needed items for the house (lampshades, extension cords, curtains).

New light fixture for the bathroom. All because they didn't have a replacement globe for the one we had. The replacement? It's the same as the current one but its stainless and its new. Sigh. $12.00, sure, why not. Globes are $7.99.

The rest of the story and not photo worthy is the caulking going on. I'm at using dads little green sit on tractor and I'm in love!! Seriously. Roll along and caulk as you go! No hurting knees life is GRAND!! Angela has taped around all the baseboards for our painting efforts. Yay!!

The other thing is a new shower head from Delta.



I have to say it's awesome. We had to change our the curved pipe to make it work well with us but I'm enjoying it!!

We bought fans for the baths however they haven't been installed just yet and not sure we'll get to them this weekend either. Drat it!!

So tomorrow. Paint and caulk baseboards. Yay? I'm soooo tired already and I have a week to go.

Day one was setting up beds and getting it set up with paper curtains in the windows. Seriously, those this's ROCK for indecisive people!! Ha!! Still working on what type of curtains I'm putting in.

Time to slow down and place myself.

Lizzie just popped in and told me she's only staying until Wednesday so I guess I'm solo for the last half of the week. Maybe Sally will go play with me?!?!

Channeling college days

Loaded up and headed to FL to work on the house. Good thing I have no passengers as there is even. Wire basket setup in the passenger side of the front as well as a few things on the floor. ;)

This photo is a funny thing. The transition from Georgia with slightly wider shoulders and reflectors in the center to Florida when it goes DARK deserted road at night. The funny thing is there is a huge 4 lane roads about 1/2 mile up the road from here that you T into.

And with that Butch and the girls are in charge of the home front and I'm working on the little house for the week.

APS DAMOP 2015 Meeting

The 46th Annual Meeting of DAMOP is heading to Columbus, Ohio! The meeting will take place at the Hyatt Regency Columbus and the Greater Columbus Convention Center. The conference will open with the prize session at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 9 and continue with other exciting scientific sessions until 12:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12. In addition, a number of special events will take place during the conference including a welcome reception on Monday, June 8 at 6:00 p.m.

Weekend work in the yard

I think I'm done for the day so I will post this while sitting waiting for Angela to come back from driving school.

I got up early (?) to drop her off at 9 for her first session of driving. When I got back home I promptly went out back and dug a trench at the top of the wall. Why? To transplant Daylilies to. From where? From here:


Cant you see them? Yeah, neither can I. Thus the reason they being moved. Out of the jungle that has BIG burning bushes at the front that hide just about everything. Not to mention the shade. It's too much for the poor lilies.

So I dig and sweat and pull up this many:



Yea, my little wagon is FULL of Daylilies!

Off I go to the back to plant them, leaving the front to look like this now:


Better. I need to get some rocks in the back corner for the roof drain off and then some stepping stones to get to the dryer vent and hose bib in the corner. Probably from both directions. This way and in from the front door to the right of this picture.

After another 20 minutes or so we have this in the back yard!






And I'm hot sweaty and gross and hit the pool then laid out in the hammock:



Until I had to get dried off and head out to get Angela at noon for lunch following her first driving class with the instructor. ;) hope she liked it. She goes back this afternoon for her 2nd driving experience. Come to think of it I wonder if they're not out back doing parking lot driving today? Guess I'll find out.

Look ma, no more braces!!

After a two and a half hour appointment this morning and a follow up hour this afternoon, Angela is officially braces free!!!

I haven't seen those teeth in YEARS!!  Good to see them again - even if they are behind a retainer :)

CHACHING!!!!

Well, the kitchen cabinets are on order - good bad or indifferent they are on order and set to be delivered and installed on or about the 19th of this month.... when I plan to be on sight in FL. 

The gas line extension is on schedule for Monday for the 15th.  So... things are coming together.  AND if I get everything in place soon enough, measurements for the countertop? 

One can hope, right? 

NOW I’ll need to add the shaker look to the OLD cabinets – however, since it’s not all visible in one look (well, not from the door) I’ll hold off on that for a bit.

Walking

The last few months Mom and I have been walking - we've made it up to 1.7+ miles a walk - takes us a little under an hour to accomplish. We started off with 1/2 that, so we're doing good. Now if we can keep some consistency and not miss a week we'll see if we can't get it up to over 2 miles... that would take three rounds. Right now we're doing two rounds and calling it quits.

Workin for the weekend

This weekend was a working weekend ;)


The Clampets go to Florida!


All loaded up!!


The garage is a little emptier..not much, but some. I have a few things to paint here them transport them down after they've been worked on.

We headed down to Florida to work on the house. The main goal was the quarter round. I did some odds and end stuff while Angela and Butch worked on the moulding. They were a good team with measurements.

I discovered cork contact paper. I'm in love :)

We also put the drawer pulls and knobs on the cabinets and they look great! The cabinet doors are all hung and looking good. They need a touch up on all of them. But they're looking great.

Sunday was to be my fishing trip:


Yeah, did not happen. Winds picked up overnight and it ended up being 9' waves at the buoy every 4 seconds. There were 4-6 foot rollers close to shore and where we were going was to be 6-8 foot waves. We had one sick just as we were headed out...and honestly, I was a little green, but not horrible thank goodness for the patch!!

So we came back in and I went to the house to work.


The shed is now clean(er)


And the shoe mould looks good!!

Drywall

You'll have to use your imagination as the pictures are from a different perspective. The originals with the holes are taken from different sides of the room.


No more gaping holes in the wall!!! It's so exciting to see, or rather, not see the hole I. The wall!!


Also no more holes in the ceiling either! Who hooooo!!


It's shaping up to be a nice house...slowly but surely. Next weekend is shoe molding and possibly starting paint in the kitchen. Then a few weeks respite until I get to go down for a week and work on the cabinets and furnishings...it may be a house soon enough ;)

Drywall

GREAT news: Drywall patches are complete and the house is ready to paint.
The bad news: Kid has band rookie camp this weekend and we're not able to go down and paint it just yet. Drat it!
